Twitch To Host New Monthly DJ Streams From Beatport

Twitch users can now enjoy several new monthly live dance music shows to be exclusively streamed on the channel, courtesy of dance music online store Beatport. These are the shows that Beatport has planned:

• Once a month on a Thursday evening, “The Residency” show will feature the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Eats Everything, Kerri Chandler, Nastia, WhoMadeWho and Sama’ Abdulhadi
• A monthly Sunday evening show will be given to electronic music collectives around the world such as London’s Boko! Boko! and He.She.They, Dome of Doom from Los Angeles, and Berlin’s No Shade
• “Hype Label Showcases” will see labels such as Soft Computing, Sense Traxx, House U and Hotfuss promoting their sounds and talent each month, in a bid by Beatport to bringing visibility to up and coming labels
• In a similar vein, the “Label Showcases” series will feature more established labels such as Drumcode, Tronic, Toolroom, Soma, Ultra, Kittball and Stereo Productions
• Beatport’s long-running “Studio Sessions” will bring educational content from industry name such as such as Chris Liebing, Francesca Lombardo and K-Hand, who will be sharing behind-the-scenes access to their studios and creative process.
• Beatport itself will present an in-house new tunes and releases show live from its Berlin HQ, with a Beatport Link (the company’s DJ music streaming service) theme. The show will featuring guest slots from DJs spinning using Beatport Link, plus Link educational content

Twitch has already hosted a lot of content from Beatport, including the well received ReConnect 36-hour charity fundraiser back at the start of the 2020 lockdown, but this appears to be an ongoing commitment from Beatport to broadcast exclusive music content on Twitch.

As Twitch expands its reach into the music community from its traditional base in gaming, the timing of this would appear to work well for the platform.

Beatport has told us that the shows will be exclusively live on Twitch, although some will be added to the company’s YouTube channel 72 hours later.

What about everyone else?

So, it seems that where there’s a will, there’s a legal way to stream on Twitch. And while anecdotally at the time of writing most DJs who choose to try to livestream on the platform appear to be “getting away with it” (including us with streams on our channel), the T&Cs are clear: You should not do this.

Let’s hope Beatport has used its position of privilege to bend Twitch’s ear about making streaming on the channel legal for all DJs, not just big companies…
