Technics has unveiled the SL-1210GAE, a new, limited edition, high-end variant of the SL-1210 turntable, which comes with a number of new features – including “improved insulation to minimise the effect of external vibrations”.
Called the SL-1210GAE, it also features a “special” moving magnet cartridge co-designed by Tokyo-based company Nagaoka.

We really weren’t impressed with the SL-1210Mk7, calling out its lightweight design as flimsy for club use – and so it proved, with YouTube reviewer Mojaxx testing it for its ability to withstand bass vibrations and finding it to be way below the mark.
So it’s good news Technics has acknowledged the shortcoming publicly for the first time we know of, in its PR for the SL-1210GAE – but bad news that users will have to pay just shy of £8k for a pair.
Now, Technics, can you just reissue the SL-1210Mk2 with a few well-considered upgrades please, and then we’ll all get off your back? Call it the SL-1210Mk8 if it makes you happy. We want to love you again, you know…
