Technics has announced a silver version of its current DJ turntable. Called the SL-1200MK7, it will sit alongside the SL-1210MK7, which is the black model.
Technics says the new turntable “shares all key features with the black SL-1210MK7 – such as the high-torque coreless direct drive motor, pitch control, reverse play, vibration-reducing chassis, and S-shaped tonearm – offering the exact same experience with a silver finish.”
Is it still worth buying Technics?
In truth, we are not fans of the SL-1200/1210MK7. Despite the advances in its motor and other areas, we’ve always felt it to be too lightweight for pro DJ use – something that’s obvious as soon as you pick one up.

Lighter turntables struggle to withstand the inevitable vibrations from bass frequencies in nightclubs, which our friend Mojaxx demonstrated in this video review back in 2019.
We prefer the far more solidly constructed SL1200/1210MK2, the iconic DJ turntable that many of us still own a pair of – mine are over 30 years old and still going strong.
However, if you are interested, the turntable goes on sale this May at £799.
