Last week we gave away a free PDF guide entitled “Ten Essential Tips On How To Switch Confidently & Painlessly From CDJs Or Vinyl To Laptop DJing” (we love a short title here!). You can actually still get it if you missed it… It’s here. Nearly 1,500 people have downloaded that guide already. Plus, as part of our research on this (we’ll be hosting a “switching to digital” seminar at the BPM Show 2013, plus there’s some special training coming very soon), we’ve been gathering case studies of DJs who’ve switched to digital – and even though we only put that request out yesterday, over 150 DJs have offered their names there too, which is awesome.
In the process of doing all of this, we have (I guess inevitably) been asked loads of questions by our readers about the best way to “go digital” from DJing with vinyl and/or CDs. So today we’re going to answer some of them.
“If I just turn on screen share…”
Just to set some expectations, let me tell you how it is round here. Digital DJ Tips is myself, our course tutors (me plus Steve and Michael), our web guys (Gabriel, David, Phil and Carl), our writers (DJ Hombre, Mike Monday, D-Jam, Terry and of course all our valued freelancers), our clever product marketing guru (another Phil), our forum mod (that’d be Terry again) and… well, that’s kind of it. And we’re in the US, the UK, Europe, Australia… So – when we get asked hundreds of questions about a topic, we can’t:
- Come to your house and fix the issue for you
- Configure your PC via any of the many types of screen-sharing software out there
- Speak to you on the phone to help you troubleshoot
…and so on. We’d absolutely, genuinely love to – but we can’t. (One thing I can assure you of is that every single email, contact form reply, survey answer, Facebook post, YouTube comment etc gets read by us – so please keep on writing ’em. You are who we do this for.)
So instead, to deal with what would otherwise have been the completely overwhelming flood of requests for help with converting to digital DJing, I decided to do a quick 10 minute video. That turned to 15 minutes, then 20, then 25…
The video
The video details my five broad areas that you should work on for a successful “digital switch”, and offers some valuable advice from my own experience coaching DJs as to what you should be thinking about to make each stage work well (and how awesome your DJing life is going to be when you’ve done it). Alongside the PDF, it’s a wealth of hard-won experience for you to share in.
We’ve put it on a special page called Switching To Digital DJing From CDs or Vinyl, so please click that link and sit back! Hope you enjoy it – and do come again to this page to let me know what you think.
Remember, you can ask any further questions, give me your feedback and so on in the comments below.
