SoundSwitch, the hardware / software package that syncs Serato DJ with DMX lighting, has just announced the release of the SoundSwitch 1.0 app. SoundSwitch lets you code your own light shows, which are then embedded into music files. When you play back those songs in Serato DJ, the data gets sent from the SoundSwitch app to the SoundSwitch hardware box, and out to the DMX lighting that you’ve got hooked up to the box. The result is an automated light show that’s repeatable and consistent.
It’s an interesting concept, especially for mobile DJs who take their own lighting rigs to shows. Imagine coding light programs for key songs in your sets, or using lights to create an immersive environment that really ties the overall mood of your performance together, all without having to fiddle with any extra knobs or buttons as you DJ.
