If you DJ with Serato using the Pioneer DJ DJM-900NXS mixer using DVS, and you’re still taking along a separate Serato audio interface to do so, you’re missing a trick! Simply by plugging directly into the mixer from your laptop, not only do you avoid needing the Serato box, but you also open up the possibility of Midi mapping any control you like on the mixer to any control you like on Serato.
In this special Serato DJ Pro tip (special because we filmed it while we were at Serato’s London studio, and because we got Serato’s own Blakey to show us it), you’ll learn how to:
- Plug in directly without a Serato audio interface (you’ll need the Serato DJ Essentials expansion pack)
- Map the DJM-900NXS mixer’s pretty useless “fader start” buttons to hotcues (much more useful!)
- Map unused knobs to effects (we map a “mid” EQ to Serato’s echo effect)
It’s so simple, as Blakey says you could do it in the middle of your set, never mind beforehand – so take a look and let us know what you think!
