Serato has announced it’s been acquired by Tiny Ltd, a Canadian tech investment firm. Tiny now owns a 66% majority stake in the company, though Serato says it will continue to operate independently and remain headquartered in New Zealand.

For DJs who rely on Serato software, this puts to bed any possible acquisition by AlphaTheta, but also news naturally raises questions. Will anything change? Will support continue? Will the tools you’re learning now still be relevant in a year?

What Serato says about the acquisition

So far, there’s no sign of major disruption. Serato’s leadership remains in place, and the company has publicly committed to its artist-first approach.

CEO Young Ly said, “We are excited by the many ways Tiny’s long-term approach accelerates how we create value for our users.” Co-founder AJ Bertenshaw also expressed confidence that the new ownership aligns with the company’s original vision.

While Tiny Ltd seems to employ a more hands-off approach, we’re curious to see if anything will change for Serato DJ users.

Still, anytime ownership changes, some uncertainty is inevitable. Tiny’s track record suggests a relatively hands-off approach – they typically invest in companies they trust to keep doing what they do well.

Finally…

For DJs and our students currently using Serato DJ Pro, Serato Studio, or other Serato tools, nothing changes right now. Software remains available, updates are continuing, and no changes to licensing or product direction have been announced.
