Push Turn Move: A Book On Music Production Controllers

We just spotted this ongoing Kickstarter campaign: Push Turn Move is a hardbound book about the history and design of electronic music controllers and interfaces, diving into the aesthetic and functional design aspects of DJ/producer gear.

Push Turn Move features exclusive interviews with makers, designers, and companies in the electronic music space, including Native Instruments, Dave Smith (legendary synth designer who recently helped create Pioneer DJ’s Toraiz SP-16 sequencer), and Ableton, among others.

“I have been following the development of music technology for years,” says author Kim Bjørn. “As those years passed, I began to imagine combining my interest for design with my love of gear in order to write a comprehensive book about interface design in electronic music.”

Our thoughts

It looks like a well-researched and comprehensive book on electronic music production controllers (as it should be for almost $50!), kind of like a hybrid coffee table book and desk reference for both hobbyist DJ/producers and pros who want to delve into the artistry and design behind the gear they use. We’re looking forward to checking it out when the book gets released come September.
