Here’s a first look at what is apparently Pioneer DJ’s new Rekordbox software, designed to work as a full standalone program rather than simply a DJ library app, taken at DJ Expo in Atlantic City.

Obviously the library section is pure Rekordbox (note the per-track waveforms), but the main section looks very much like Serato. I guess it’s hard to reinvent the wheel when Serato, Traktor and Virtual DJ are such mature products – or is there some kind of software partnership going on under the cover?

Anyway, we’ll be reviewing the software properly when we get a copy, and we’ve already revealed a lot, but suffice to say this was being shown without any controllers or DJ gear attached, just a laptop, so it’s clearly still a work in progress at Pioneer as we write.

Update: Rekordbox DJ has been launched. Check out the article here.
