In this in-depth video talkthrough from the floor of the BPM Show, you’ll be shown all the features of the brand new Numark NS7 II DJ controller, a monster of a unit that combines high-torque motorised platters with full four-deck Serato DJ control and an absolute wealth of innovative controllerist features. From touch-sensitive knobs to a whole ten performance modes, full RGB velocity-sensitive pads (the same as Akai’s MPC units) to unique filter/FX combos, this controller builds on the much-loved but now, of course, dated (it came out five years ago) original NS7.
You can plug extra decks in thanks to the true standalone mixer built in to the unit, and there are two microphone channels (one that has its own levels and can be routed to output independently of the mixer, and one that you can route through as mixer channel). I particularly liked the touch-sensitive kills that let you cut the whole track simply by putting the side of your palm across all the EQs – a neat trick.
Overall my impression was that Numark has done a good job of packing in stuff not just for the sake of it, but rather that’s been thought through to allow you to enhance your performance, and in doing so has come up with arguably the ultimate Serato DJ controller. What is indisputable is that it’s the biggest and heaviest – as I say, it’s a beast!
Of course we’ll do a full, in-depth review in the next few weeks, but for now I hope this lengthy video gives you a flavour of what it’s all about.
