Native Instruments has just released its Traktor Kontrol D2 controller, as first revealed on Digital DJ Tips back in March. It’s the latest controller by the company that comes with an onboard display, and has four faders meant for Remix Decks and for NI’s upcoming Stems file format, and a bank of performance pads: Basically, a “deck” from the Kontrol S8.
Early feedback suggests the idea of going modular with the Remix Decks has been well received by the community, because it lowers the barriers to entry for NI’s DJ vision in two ways: Making the Traktor Kontrol D2 less than half the price of an S8 to make it more accessible (although the price is still pretty substantial), and picking out only the deck essentials to give the controller a smaller footprint perfect for club use where cramped DJ booths have mixers installed already.

(This is a bit of a “hero video” that came out a few weeks back, hopefully we’ll get something else soon from NI with a bit more content on the D2 to share with you, in lieu of our full review.)
• The Traktor Kontrol D2 is available for US$499 and is available now at the NI Online Shop.
