Surprise hit at the NAMM Show has been this tiny, cheerful little controller from Korg, the Kaoss DJ. Coming with Serato DJ Intro in the box, it offers not only a Serato control surface but also a standalone mixer and built-in hardware Korg FX with trademark touchpad control… all for US$299.

We can see this being a hit with “pro” DJs wanting a second controller to throw in a bag and use on the road, or indeed anyone who just wants a small, lightweight Serato controller for whatever reason. It would make a good “first” DJ controller, and for fans of Korg’s Kaoss effects, it’s an intriguing proposition (DJ controller, sound card, mixer for external sources AND hardware effects all in one tiny unit).

As we say, it’s been a surprise hit for sure here, probably because it was unexpected (it’s Korg’s first Serato controller), and because it does something a little different.

Great little device, or gimmick? Let us know your thoughts on the Korg Kaoss DJ in the comments.
