Their name sounds a bit like Transformers, they look like Millennium Falcons, and it would be mighty easy to simply poke fun at these curious little DJ/producer devices from Casio. But after seeing a demo from product specialist Sara Simms here at NAMM 2015
– in which she both DJed and scratched on the DJ one (the silver one), and built a completely passable EDM groove on the sequencer/sampler (the red one) – I decided they at least warranted a closer look.

In this little talkthrough, Sara explains how they are designed to be used left or right handed, how you can feed the DJ output into the sequencer to jam or groove over the top of your own music, and how thanks to them being both battery powered and having their own speakers, you can groove just about anywhere with them. If you’ve seen these and scratched your head, hopefully this will at least help you to work out what they do.

So the jury’s out – curiosities, toys, or fun DJ/producer tools to help people get started in music? What do you think of these little units from Casio? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
