Numark iDJ Flex
The Numark iDJ Flex adds iPad options to the mix, meaning it can work with iPad software or with PC/Mac DJ software as required.

iPad controllers were everywhere at Musikmesse 2013, and Numark slipped a new one under the radar, showing the Numark iDJ Flex for the first time. “Flex” stands for “flexible”, and this controller is designed to work with both iPad and PC/Mac DJ software. They were demoing it with Algoriddim’s djay software, but it’s not clear which PC/Mac software – if any – it will ship with.

It is, in a nutshell, a Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 with an iPad slotted on the back. The unit is Apple approved (so no need for fiddly adaptors) and so the controller can also charge your iPad. There is a mechanism for holding the iPad on the back.

If you like the Mixtrack Pro 2, but want to be able to use an iPad too, it might make sense. Mixtrack Pro 2 comes with Serato DJ Intro and it would be good if this did too – we’ll have to confirm that for you.

With software like Algoriddim’s djay on iPad, you can control aspects of the program direct from the touchscreen, but with a touchscreen held at an angle, it’s not perfect due to the inevitable “wobble”. However, this unit is considerably smaller than the Numark iDJ Pro for not having an integrated iPad slot as that model does. Price and availability to be confirmed.
