Spark Digital
The Blue Microphones Spark Digital is designed for digital users, recording direct to computer or iOS device. It is perfect for online DJ mix shows.

Digital hasn’t only changed the way we play music, it’s also changed the way we bring it to our audiences. Nowadays many digital DJs are producing webcast, podcasts, mix shows, internet radio shows and so on, all in the name of getting their names out there, and their music to the masses. If you want to do any of these things, one thing you need in your set-up is a good microphone, and the Blue Microphones Spark Digital is just that – a studio quality condenser microphone, but at a relatively low cost, and with a host of features designed to make life easy for us digital guys. At Musikmesse 2013, we took a look…

The microphone is table-top, with vibration isolation provided by an elastic cord woven around its holder. It contains a single mono microphone capsule, of the same type used in the company’s actual studio microphones. That means you can record a single audio source in mono from it. It has cables to allow you to attach it to a computer (USB) or your iPad (30-pin); if you have an iPad with a Lightning connector, you’ll need to use an adaptor.

Features include a “focus” control (to adjust the audio characteristics). built in direct headphone monitoring (to avoid any latency issues you may get monitoring via a DAW), and a single knob that controls microphone gain, headphone monitoring and muting. Although we couldn’t test the quality of it on a busy show floor, we will hopefully be carrying a full Digital DJ Tips review of it soon. Price is US$199, no confirmed euro price at this time.
