Controller Leak: Rane Performer, A Motorised Platter Rane Four?

Last updated 14 February, 2024

Here’s a surprise for DJs from a Super Bowl pre-party. It’s what appears to be a motorised platter Rane Four controller, spotted in an Instagram story. The unit appears to be the same as the Rane Four controller, but with motorised platters featuring in-jog displays, such as those found on Pioneer DJ’s DDJ-REV7 controller. It has a different name on the rear which looks very much like “Rane Performer” to us…

Rane Four, meet REV7!

You can clearly see the in-jog displays on those spinning platters, but what is the name on the back of the unit?

A motorised-platter Rane Four controller would give Serato DJs a solid alternative – something for those who like jogs on the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV7, but prefer a four-channel unit with the deep software control of the Rane Four – and it would build on the generally positive reception given to the Rane Four since its release, while at the same time answering the question: “What, Rane and it isn’t motorised?”

We spotted a Super Bowl halftime show clip on DJ iZ’s Instagram story of what appears to be a modded Rane Four “Performer”. What do you think? You can take a closer look at it here.

Rane are staying tight-lipped on this so we know absolutely nothing more than you can see in this video. But the fact it has a different name on the back (and again we’re pretty sure it is “Rane Performer”) definitely suggests that those spinnin’ jogs ain’t no mod!

As this does indeed seem to be an as-yet-unannounced model working and out in the wild, we can assume that we’ll be getting official confirmation from Rane soon enough, and DJs should expect a release date not too far in the future. Meanwhile, let us know what you think, if you have spotted any features we haven’t, and what you think that name on the back is…
