As a DJ school, people often ask us questions along the lines of, “If I buy this or that piece of gear, will it make me a better DJ?”
But the truth is that it’s not about what the gear can do, it’s about whether you can get it to do what you want it to do.
In other words, DJing is about ideas, not about features on equipment.
Or to put it yet another way, great DJ tricks don’t start on your gear, but in your head.
Next time you feel frustrated with your equipment, or feel that if only you had better gear you’d be a better DJ, remember that a good DJ can play great sets on any gear, but there are plenty of lesser DJs who often manage to make the best gear sound bad!
