IK Multimedia has just launched its iLoud MTM MKII range of ultra near-field monitor speakers.

Physically, they are extremely similar to the previous model, maintaining the slimline moulded casing and the choice of horizontal or vertical positioning with provided mats and stands.

Audio correction comes to the MTMs

But crucially, the iLoud MTM MKIIs add the company’s ARC room audio correction technology, which first appeared in its iLoud Precision range of speakers. This tech allows the user to sample the audio qualities of the room the speakers are set up in using a provided measurement microphone, which the speakers will then use to improve the audio quality via the built in DSPs.

Calibrating your monitors with their ARC measurement microphone is a simple process and should only take a few minutes.

While all of this can work independently of any app or software, the speakers also integrate with the company’s X-Monitor software, which allows far more in-depth control of the speakers than what is possible from the buttons on the back, including instant switching between different audio profiles.

On-board controls

That said, there are a comprehensive range of controls on the rear of each monitor. With push button cut and boost for EQ, volume, a balanced TRS/XLR input, USB-B for connecting to a computer, the measurement microphone-in socket, a power socket, calibration controls, and an IEC connector for the provided power lead, you probably won’t need to use the software at all, unless it has features you’d particularly like to play with.

IK Multimedia says that there have been many small improvements too, such as better mid woofers that go smoothly down to lower frequencies, higher onboard processing power for better transparency and resolution, improved horizontal dispersion for broader sweet spots, and the overall raising of each unit’s loudness from 110.5 to 112.5 decibels.

While the units can be bought individually at €/$400 each, the sweet spot for DJs is a pair at €/$800 which includes the ARC measurement microphone.

We’ve got a review coming up soon – meanwhile, find more information on the IK Multimedia website.
