About the set-up
Here’s how it works:
- DJs use a Beatport Streaming account to access their Beatport playlists inside the Chrome-based Beatport DJ app (which incidentally means that Chromebook users have a DJ app they can use, finally). From there, it’s possible to mix with most of the same tools found in all leading DJ software
- Next, you plug in an Allen & Heath Xone:K2 modular DJ controller, which takes it all to a higher level, because the controller offers hands-on control of volume, EQ, pitch, looping, FX, sync, filters, library browsing and more, including high-quality audio output into both speakers and headphones
- By adding a special overlay (you can print it or buy it from Allen & Heath’s website), that helps you to learn what controls do what on the unit, you get yourself a portable, fun and great-sounding DJ system
The set-up is great for preparing sets, practising, building playlists and even playing parties. We tested it all out and apart from a few hoops to jump through to configure the audio, plus no obvious way to alter headphone volume when pre-cueing, it all worked ridiculously well – we were impressed.
