Filter is a new service that indexes free, legal dance music downloads from around the web. It uses tags such as Energy, Key, and Time Slot that let you search its database of carefully picked tunes, all at 320kbps or higher resolution. No poor-sounding YouTube or streaming rips here.
What makes Filter different from other free music download sites that have been around for years is that it’s meant to be a boutique service: At the moment, it only has 2000+ songs in its catalogue, which is surprisingly tiny by today’s music library standards, and that could be a good thing. Of course, that also means you’ll just have to trust the Filter team picking out the best stuff for you from all over the web…
• Filter is currently in beta, and you can sign up for at the website.
What do you think about boutique curation sites like this? Do you think these are still necessary, or would you rather go with a more general aggregator like Hype Machine? Let us know your thoughts below.
