Despite fresh investment and a new CEO, SoundCloud users are still worried about their tracks disappearing should SoundCloud close down. Because of this, a GitHub user has released a tool dubbed “DownCloud” that lets users save all of their songs they have on the platform.

DownCloud allows users to pull up all of their uploaded tracks in a single page, ready to be downloaded in their original, non-streaming compressed format. While you will have to authorise the tool with SoundCloud to see your tracks, it is stated that none of your data will be retained.

We think it’s handy for SoundCloud users with a large number of tracks on their profiles and don’t want to go through the hassle of saving them one by one. However, it should be noted that DownCloud isn’t officially endorsed by SoundCloud. Even though DownCloud states that it won’t harvest any of your user data, the fact that you’re entering your login details in order for it to work raises some concern. Use at your own peril.

Now is a definitely good time to ensure that any music you currently have on the service doesn’t get lost should SoundCloud fold. We listed a further four things you can do today here.

Would you trust a third-party tool like DownCloud? Have you already got all of your SoundCloud tracks backed up just in case the company folds? If so, how did you go about it? Let us know in the comments below…
