“I’ll give that EQ tweak a 5 out of 10!” Is there just a bit too much pointless EQ tweaking going on in DJing nowadays? We’d like to know what you think…

This question is inspired by a forum post where a reader was asking about the best way to use EQ, and one of our moderators pointed out that in his view, a lot of DJs overuse EQ nowadays. We’ve all seen it: People DJing hovering over the bass, mid and treble, tweaking away, and seemingly not actually doing very much to the overall sound at all. It’s almost as if they are embarrassed that there’s not much to do right now, and the EQ seems a good place to start to look busy!

It can go even further, with cutting out and bringing the bass back it at any possible opportunity, or using filters to death (when of course it does become noticeable). Of course, in the right hands this stuff can be done brilliantly, but the question we’re asking today is: Do certain DJs do this pointlessly, or too much? We’d love to know your thoughts!

So, over to you. Do you think EQ has become a “let’s look busy” part of DJing? Do you see DJs pretending to do stuff with their EQ?s? Do you hear DJs ruining sets by playing with this astuff a bit too much? Are you one of them? Let us know your thoughts in the comments…
