Apple Is Iconic
djay For iPad featured in the recent iPad is Iconic TV ad, and the app has now been updated to v1.1.

In a big week for Algoriddim, the company has overhauled and updated the iPad version of djay to 1.1, adding a whole host of improvements, additions and tweaks to the well-received touchscreen DJing app.

We were broadly in favour of the app when we first reviewed it back in December 2010, so we were interested to see what improvements Algoriddim had made for this 1.1 release.

We’ve published the full press release on our Facebook Page, but here are the main improvements:

  • 3 additional cue points– beat juggling and live remixing, here we come
  • Looping – auto loop, manual loop and a “bounce loop” kind of beat mashing feature. Much needed
  • Gain – by swiping the level meters, individual track gain is now possible
  • BPM column – it’s now possible to see and sort by BPM when in the iTunes library. Would have liked to have seen comment and grouping columns here, too

What’s missing?

Additions we’d like to have seen but which haven’t made this release include the ability to halve/double the software’s auto BPM calculations; some effects (come on, give us some filters!), and the ability to preview without loading.

However, a BPM column, cues and looping functions are a big step towards making djay For iPad a truly viable DJing platform, and if you’ve been thinking of taking the plunge, this should be the update that persuades you to give it a go.

• djay For iPad 1.1 is available now for US$19.99 from the app store on iPad or from the iTunes App Store.

Do you have an iPad and if so, are you tempted by this app? Do you already use it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
