Serato’s latest version of its Studio software, v1.6, adds in some pretty powerful new features to help DJ/producers make music, moving it ever closer to being a true alternative to a traditional DAW for making music.
For instance, it’s now possible to record directly from any source (including built-in computer mics, instruments, and vinyl for sampling). At the same time, audio track capabilities have been expanded to make Song View more powerful.

One small thing for Mac users is that there is now an official Serato Virtual Audio Driver, to replace the third-party solution used in previous versions.
What is Serato Studio?
If you’re not familiar with Serato Studio, it’s a DAW designed primarily for beat making. In Serato’s words, its “sample-based workflow removes all the technical clutter so producers can get right into the flow”.
It’s definitely worth a look if you find traditional DAWs scary, especially if you’re already a Serato user.
