The Lowdown

The Jetpack Slim DJ bag is a high-quality backpack that provides excellent organisation and protection of all of the essential gear I take along to my gigs. If you need a new DJ bag and you spin with DVS timecode or media players at the club, this should be on your shortlist. DJs who need to be able to store larger DJ equipment in their bag, such as a mixer or controller, will want to check out the larger bags in Orbit Concepts’ lineup, or consider a flight case.

First Impressions / Setting up

Laptop-based digital DJs use different kinds of equipment, from turntables to media players to controllers. One thing they all use though is a bag to carry their laptop and essential accessories. There are a ton of bags out there to choose from, but I was looking for one designed specifically for DJs that could hold all the gear I bring with me to the gig, but wouldn’t become too bulky. After doing some online research, I landed on the Jetpack Slim DJ bag by Orbit Concepts, a compact DJ backpack designed to hold all the essential gear of a digital DJ.

The Jetpack Slim is available in three different styles – black, camo, and gray, and features a clean minimal design. Orbit Concepts even offers a customisation option to embroider your DJ logo on the front panel of the bag for an additional fee. The materials are high quality, and the premium workmanship gives me confidence that this bag will withstand the wear and tear of traveling. Speaking of, this bag’s TSA-friendly laptop compartment will make getting through airport security as painless as possible. The adjustable backpack straps feel strong and secure, and the air mesh cushioning on the back of the bag keep even a heavy bag worn for long periods of time from feeling uncomfortable.

In Use

The Jetpack Slim opens flat making it convenient when going through airport screeners.

Both the laptop and main storage compartments can be opened completely, letting the open bag lay flat on a surface for easy access to everything inside. The laptop compartment reveals a padded sleeve to fit your laptop, with a velcro strap to keep the laptop secure. The other side features two sleeves to store vinyl records and slipmats, as well as a removable slim CD case. The top of the bag has a small zippered pocket for quick access to smaller items such as USB thumb drives, keys, and earplugs.

The main storage section of the bag contains several pockets and pouches to store and protect your gear. The two large velcro-secure pockets are perfect for storing a turntable cartridge case, a microphone, a laptop power adapter, or a small controller accessory such as the Novation Dicers. Above those pockets is a large, elastic mesh pouch to store headphones, cables, adapters, and other items. The overlapping design lets you store a considerable amount of gear in this pouch. On the other side of the bag, there are two more mesh pouches, a clip for hanging keys, sleeves for storing pens and business cards, and a clear plastic laminate for a logo or identification card.

Conclusion

The Jetpack Slim DJ bag can hold all your gig bits and bobs, and is a great backpack for DJs who spin with DVS timecode and media players.

The Jetpack Slim DJ backpack is exactly the kind of bag I was looking for, a high-quality DJ bag designed with DJs in mind that provides excellent organisation and protection of all of the essential gear I bring to my gigs. If you need a new DJ bag, this might be the one for you. DJs who need to be able to store larger DJ equipment in their bag, such as a mixer or controller, will want to check out the larger bags in Orbit Concepts’ lineup, or consider a flight case.
