Denon DJ just announced a firmware update to its MCX8000 all-in-one standalone system. Now at version 2.0, the MCX8000 finally works with the company’s Engine Prime library management app, and that means the MCX8000 fully supports USB drives prepared via the Engine Prime software. Other improvements include beat grid support for Engine Prime-prepared thumb drives, added microphone and talk over menu options, extensive quantise settings and a host of bug fixes.

Meanwhile, the Engine Prime app has also received an update and is at version 1.2.1. The new version includes tweaks to library management and organisation such as the ability to rearrange playlists and the ability to drag and drop iTunes, Traktor and Serato crates and folders into the Engine Prime Collection.

The MCX8000 firmware update will be big news for existing MCX8000 owners who have been waiting for quite some time to get any updates to the standalone system, especially since Engine Prime was released last year. Prior to this update, libraries exported from Engine Prime couldn’t be played on the MCX8000, but now Engine Prime can be used to prepare a collection for DJing on the MCX8000, the SC5000 Prime and the SC5000M Prime. That means MCX8000 owners will benefit from all future Engine Prime features too as developments to the app are added over time.

• MCX8000 v2.0 and Engine Prime v1.2.1 are now available. Check the Denon DJ site for more details.
