Pioneer has today launched the Remix-Station RMX-500 effects unit, a stripped-down version of its RMX-1000 unit, but with a few tricks up its sleeve of its own.
A DJ-focused standalone unit designed to integrate into a send/return loop from a DJ mixer, the portable Remix-Station 500 has been designed for “easy one-handed control of multiple parameters” – that’s “macro FX” to you and me, folks, and it’s A Good Thing.
The two pressure-sensitive control knobs – one for rhythm, one for drum machine – can be rotated for wet/dry balance, and pressed to modulate sub-parameters.
With ten auto-quantised scene FX, five drum samples, new rhythm and release FX, and customisation for virtual VST/AU/RTAS plug-ins, the unit does maintain some of the wide flexibility of the RMX-1000, but at a lower price.
Watch a video from Origin Sound showing off the unit here, and find out more on Pioneer’s website here.
The unit will retail at €399 / £339. It’s on sale from Feb 2014.
