Pioneer DJ has today announced a new range of active DJ monitor speakers, the VM-50, VM-70 and VM-80s.
These are bi-amped class D two-way active speakers with built-in DSPs, and are differentiated from each other by their bass speaker sizes and amp power: They come with 5.25″, 6.5″ and 8″ woofers respectively, with 30W, 40W and 90W LF amplifiers. (All units have 30W HF amplifiers.)
The speakers are MDF, with distinctive aluminium face plates. They range from approx 8x11x10″ to 11x16x13″ in size, and come with cushioned feet to help isolate them when placed on hard surfaces.

Pioneer DJ is pushing the built-in DSPs: This effectively means that they have low and hi “set and forget” stepped tone controls on the back, to help you to tune them to home studio environments.
They certainly look nice and fresh, especially the VM-50s, which are available in white as well as black. We have a pair of VM-70s here in the studio, and will put them to the test over the next few weeks, bringing you a review of them once we’ve formed an opinion – watch this space!
