Pioneer DJ just announced that it has officially launched a new update to Rekordbox. Now at version 5.6.1, the update includes the ability to connect to and stream from Beatport LINK, Beatport’s music streaming service. You get instant access to over six million tracks in the Beatport catalogue straight from Rekordbox DJ’s browser. You can even save tracks in an Offline Locker if you sign up for a Beatport LINK Pro (50 tracks) or Beatport LINK Pro+ plan (100 tracks).
Apart from Beatport LINK, Rekordbox 5.6.1 also lets you stream tracks from SoundCloud if you’ve got a SoundCloud Go+. You’ll be able to access your playlists and liked tracks.
We’ve said it time and again: streaming is the next big thing in DJing. While it’s not perfect (we reviewed the beta and there were some kinks that need to be ironed out still) it’s a step in the right direction for the technology, and it’s only a matter of time before this type of in-app streaming becomes the norm for other DJ software (Serato and Virtual DJ already have it – your move, Traktor).
