PhonicMind is a new service that strips away instruments and isolate vocals from a track. The way it works is you upload a music file to PhonicMind and it processes the track using artificial intelligence to give you two files: one with just the vocals, and one without vocals. It does all of this in under a minute, and it costs from under a dollar per song depending on the plan you purchase.
DJ/producers and remixers know how tough it is to find or create acapellas for productions. If PhonicMind is capable of what it claims to do, this could mean that removing vocals for remixes and mashups is now as easy as uploading a track to the service and downloading the vocal file. Furthermore, mobile DJs who spin karaoke parties could now create instrumentals from any song in their collection on the spot.
We tested it briefly (there’s a free song upload trial): though the vocal removal wasn’t 100% cleanly separated from the music, it’s still usable for productions. However, we were impressed by the instrumental that was generated, which could come in handy for sing-a-longs at functions, weddings and parties. Watch out for our full review of it.
• PhonicMind is available now with price plans from US$0.75 per song. Check the PhonicMind site for more details.
