One of the most novel innovations at NAMM 2018 is the MWM Phase wireless DVS timecode system. Working with any DVS, it turns standard turntables into wireless platters, more akin to the Rane Twelves than conventional turntables – that means no cartridges or needles needed, and of course no timecode vinyl either.
It surprised us how well it worked for a prototype – we saw a queue of scratch DJs pushing it to the max today, and considering it’s wireless, the reaction was by and large great. How useful scratch DJs end up finding it is an open question, but coming from the same company that brought us the Mixfader, it has pedigree.
By the way, one neat thing is that the two spindle-mounted transmitters slot into the receiver base for charging, making it quite a neat little system for carrying around.
