Digital DJ Tips Platinum Group member Hikmet writes: “I have been asked to do a UV party. Who has experience with these and which lights do you recommend? What’s the best way to set up a 15 x 20m dancefloor for this type of event?”
Digital DJ Tips says…
Great question, Hikmet. For those of you who don’t know, a UV party (also known as a “blacklight party”) is usually a rave where people wear white, carry glow sticks and cover themselves in UV paint – messy and lots of fun.
To throw a UV party you, of course, need UV lights. If you already have a lighting rig, it’s worth checking to see if there are any UV settings included. Multi-lights like the Chauvet DJ FXpar 9 have this option.
If you need more specialist lighting like UV bars and cannons, why not rent this equipment first? This is especially true if the party is a one-off thing. The people down at the hire place will also be able to give you a good idea of what you need. One thing we would definitely recommend is to make sure your gear is well protected should people bring UV paint to chuck around!
Now, as none of the team here at Digital DJ Tips has actually thrown one of these parties themselves, we are going to throw the question over to our audience and see what tips and experiences they have to share.
