Lots of you have been asking us our views on the AKG Tiesto range of headphones, so we tracked AKG down and had a look at Musikmesse 2013. The range as a whole feels well made, looks good (the Tiesto styling is sharp, with no obvious use of his name on them), sounds good, isolates well and offers something for most DJs.
There are three models in the range, the K67, the K167 and the K267. The K67 is about Sennheiser HD-25 size, maybe a little bigger, so they sit on the ear rather than over it. They are comfortable, lots of metal in the construction, with thick padding and decent sound.
Moving up the range, the K167 and K267 share a bigger earcup and driver, sitting over rather than on the ear, and seem to be differentiated by the quality of the headband (it is more padded and substantial on the K267) and by a setting to allow you to choose “club”, “studio” or “stage” to affect the EQ of the headphones. We didn’t get a chance to test this at all, although apparently the “stage” setting is brighter to cut through lots of background noise. They’re equally well built, and reassuringly weighty.
As we’ve never reviewed any AKG headphones before we wouldn’t like to give you a definitive assessment of these just yet; instead AKG has promised us some review samples, so we’ll get them in and take a look.
