I'm newer to this forum but it seems to have a lot more younger DJs then some other forums I follow. For all you young DJs, how long have you been DJing, where are you located, and do you have any other musical experience and how old are you? I'm 14 and living in Boulder, CO and I'm just getting started DJing but I have been producing for a couple of months and have been playing guitar for 10 years.
Hey Quasi, I'm not that young but I'm 25 Living in Seattle, WA. Been DJ'ing for the past 4 years now. Prior to DJ'ing All I have ever done is played a Trumpet in Middle/High School.
I'm not young anymore either. I'm going to be 39 in August. BUT...I started when I was 19. I wished I could have started sooner, but I didn't have the income to buy gear and music until after high school. I did play saxophone from 4th grade all the way into my first year of college, but stopped since EDM was calling me more than jazz or concert music. I will say you younger DJs are at an advantage. Your life is merely school, your peers, and such. You can build a following here that will follow you into adulthood. Seen many locals grow big simply because they had the kickstart of playing house parties and school dances for their peers. It's harder when you're not in school and thus can't easily promote to your peers...or your peers have gotten older and now aren't going out clubbing anymore. Use this time to perfect your technique, keep producing, and grow. Build a fanbase in your high school and carry them into college. Play people's house parties and school dances if you can. When you get a little older (17, 18, 19, 20)...network in the rave scene or look into teen clubs for possible gigs.

I think in general DJs are getting younger. A whole new world has opened up where you can download a free copy of Virtual DJ and be on your way. It used to involve $1000s of dollars but now a few hundred will get you a satisfactory setup.
I'm from Aurora, Colorado and am 13 but started when I was 12 and have been djing for 5 months lol, I got really serious on my thirteenth birthday. I have played the saxaphone for coming on 3 years and plan on playing drums in the band this coming school year. I'm glad that they're are more djs around my age, I thought that djing this young was a dieing cause.
