Questions on recently purchased Denon MC 3000

    Hi,

I recently purchased a MC3000 and I have a couple of questions if someone can be kind enough to address.

    1) I found the jog wheels highly insensitive. I found that I needed to spin the jog wheels a couple of rounds to make a small correction. I compare this to the Pioneer DJ 100s where I will probably only need to turn it 1/4 of a round. Is there any way I can increase the sensitivity of the jog wheel?

    2) I also realised that the LEDs are not very accurate at monitoring volume the incoming sound. Any tips? I had no problems with my Kam DMX 300 mixer in the past.

    3) It also seems that the current set up of Traktor and MC3000 cannot hold the transition as well compared to the Pioneer DJ 100s. What I am trying to say is that the tracks tend to drift apart quicker. This used to happen with the DJ100s as they could only be pitched to the nearest 0.1% but it was manageable and the jog wheel was more responsive.

But it seems to be a constant battle with the MC3000.

    4) The sound that I get is rather sharp and fairly light on the bass versus a warmer and rounded bass on the Kam mixer. anything I can do about this?

Apologies if I am asking to many questions. And I appreciate any views. Thank you.

    What software are you using?

    Hi Phil,

    Thanks for your reply.

I am using Traktor LE but I am in the midst of upgrading to Traktor Pro 2 (I think that is what its called) once I sort out the upgrading issues.

IMO you should take some time to read the manual of your MC3000 and Traktor.
After using it a while you might want to upgrade to T2 pro?
Then you really need to read the manual and also get a copy of the Traktor 2 bible to get the most out of your gear.

If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask them here or in the Denondjforums.com
I will try to help you the best I can.

    Hi Hessler,

Thank you for your reply. I am in the midst of upgrading to T2 Pro as well. But I have been having problems with the upgrade from LE to T2. I bought the upgrade from NI and I was told to download a ZIP file for the PC.

I did all that and followed all the installment instructions but it still shows LE on my software. Do you know the reason?

Noted and thanks for your advise on reading the manual. I will get down to that. Can the pitch range be customized? ie can it be +/- 6%? The reason is that 8% or 10% is too wide for Denon's pitch slider and I don't need that much wiggle room.

Are you really 100% sure that you did install exactly as it says in the Traktor 2 Pro Manual??
    http://www.native-instruments.com/f...raktor_2_Application_Reference_English_02.zip

If you DL the zip from my shortcut above and take a good look at Page 19 to 21 and follow the instructions you should be fine.

Also if you have a shortcut anywhere to Traktor LE please Delite that b4 installing T2P.

After you have installed the SW you need to register to NI and also download the latest upgrade if there is any.
    (also read page 262)

    For pitchrange read page 148
    In Traktor pro you can set the pitchrange to 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%, 12%, 14%, 16%, 18%, 20%, 25%, 35%, 50% or 100%.

Also read page 149 about tempo bend sensitivity (that is the sensetivity of the pitchbend buttons but I belive also the pitchbend on joggwheel) It might be of help to get your joggwheel pitchbending the way you want them to :)

I hope this help and I refer to the manual because it would be too much text here otherwise.....

Do not hesitate to ask again as I am sertain to get you to be pleased with your Denon MC3000

It is a great unit IMO!

Thank you Hessler for your kind patience. Its seems that all I needed to do was to input the serial number into the Service Centre to upgrade from LE to T2.

Do you know of where I can download the midi mapping for the MC3000? I tried the default one that was provided but the channel faders and the monitor cues and volume do not work. I tried doing it manually myself via the Controller Manager but it is not working for some inexplicable reason.

The Traktor manual that was provided does not mention what to do about this.

Once again, many thanks for your kind help!

Did you test the .tsi that is in T2Pro?
If you run the setup and chose Denon MC3000??
That is the current one that Denon recommends and it should work....

Also did you update Traktor Pro 2 to the latest verion??
  9. Prototype1 Member

Did you test the .tsi that is in T2Pro? Yes I have. I imported the file from the Controller Manager page.

If you run the setup and chose Denon MC3000?? I chose Denon MC3000 from the drop down list after I imported the tsi file.

That is the current one that Denon recommends and it should work....

Also did you update Traktor Pro 2 to the latest verion?? It should be the latest version as I just purchased the upgrade over the weekend. In any case, I have just gone to the service centre to do another update. However, I have not updated anything under the Driver or Patch downloads because the instruments named sound like NI controllers such as S2/S4, X1 and Audio 2, 4, 6
    Thanks

Well then we have too look into it in onother way....

the channel faders and the monitor cues and volume do not work.

The main volume should work as in higher and lower the volume
but it is by default not affecting the main volume in Traktor.
Because it is a hardware analouge volume in MC3000 that does not affect the digital
master volume in Traktor. That is because the sound gets a bit better that way!
You can if you want map the master volume on MC3000 to the master volume in T2
but you will have a decrece in soundquality.......

As you are a owner of an external built in mixer on your MC3000
You shoud select exernal mixer in the settings and then the other problems should be solved as well!
A bonus is that you now can take away the mixer section in your T2 window and have more space for other
things (that is also done in settings) Refer to your T2 user manual......

I hope that I am right about this now!

    Otherwise please let me know!

    Hi Hessler,..

Thank you for your suggestion. I uninstalled T2 and reinstalled in again. It worked somehow... Dont ask me why

Its currently on Traktor default settings and not Denon in the controller manager and under the Internal Mixer option. Although everything works fine but it still sounds funny to me... It sounds better under the External mixing option but the channel faders do not work..

What do you mean by that the channel faders do not work??
Do they not affect the sound at all?? Or does the faders on screen not move when you move the sliders?

You need to run the setup and chose Denon MC3000 and external mixer!
  13. Prototype1 Member

The channel faders do not affect the sound at all when I am on the external mixing mode.

Yes I have run set up, chosen MC3000 and external mixer.

You should NOT use the LE version of .tsi
    but the other one.

    Hi Prototype1!
I am glad it helped and I hope that you now are satisfied with your MC3000 :)

The mix was very good IMO for the first one on your new gear, thank you for charing!
  18. Prototype1 Member

Yes Hessler. Thank you so much for your help and kind words about the mix. I will be sharing more mixes on the forum and please do feel free to comment and exchange pointers.

I am still in the midst of tweaking many things on the MC3000 and I just want to add something to this thread that I hope will contribute to anyone searching.

    1) I have taken away the "soft takeover" option for all EQ, Filters and Effects knobs. This helps in giving you better control over the sound. I noticed for the soft takeoveharr option, the bass hardly comes in between 7pm to 9pm but it comes in really hard between 11pm to 12pm.

    2) In order to make the jog wheels resemble more of the Pioneer CDJ variety, I have reduced acceleration to 0% and increased sensitivity from 10% to 20%.

Cheers and a good weekend to all :)

Hessler and Prototype1, are you sure about the possibility of "external mixing mode" on the MC3000?

I asked about this, but they told me it's not possible on the MC3000 because it doesn't have a real mixer inside.

How did you succeed in doing this, Prototype1?

    Thanks for the help!
