Hey guys, So i just had a interesting idea, just for the hell and kicks of us to get some more mixes out there. How many people here would be interested in doing an online DJ battle for just Bragging rights. The competition would be based on clean mixing, eqing and track selection. Have different Categories depending on how many people would be interested, or just 1 big battle where everyone can play whatever style they like and we get to be the judge. If any of you would be interested on this please post here saying your genre and where about's you are from. Cheers for Beers
How would you go about doing this? Like what site and whatnot? I'd be interested though, just to have a bit of fun with some of the guys.
Well mixcloud would work because it is totally free and people can upload them with relative ease. voting would be done on this forum board of course The way it would be done is some basic rules: 1 hour mix, any song selection. create a new Thread with the voting option of all the people who have entered and off we go.
Loving this idea hee! id like to help with anything making this forum more interconnected , sorry about dirty loud freaking CEMF kicked my ass i was knocked out till mon day XD
That sounds like a sick idea....hopefully alot of people are interested in it...I would be interested
Cool idea. But if I recall correct there is such site out there actually. I dont have access to my bookmarks atm but when I get home I'll check it. Dunno the rules there but it's a duel style for djs.
i'd be up for a battle, my genres would be either trance, hard trance, dance, scouse house or happy hardcore
Found it: http://www.spinutopia.com/index/ the page seems quite dead tbh, so we are better on our own here
Kk If anyone has real interest in this can they inbox me the following: DJ name, Real Name Location Style of Music This is just so that i can compile a list of everyone who wants to try this out...I will keep on bumping this thread to peak interest and after 2 weeks or so i will send instructions to everyone on how to proceed! Once that is complete I will create a new Thread...with all the DJs that entered, and they can post their link of their mix. Everyone can then vote!
As much as many of us think short sets are evil, an hour long set is a bit long for a battle IMO. Other than that, I'm so down.
I would also be more interested in both joining and actually listening too all the mixes if the length was cut down to +/- 30 minutes. Having to listen and judge multiple 60-minute-long mixes is a bit too much to ask anybody.
I do not know yet if I have the time, as I am really booked full atm, but I would be interested. However I can surely try to help you with the voting here on the site if you make it happen and moderate the voting thread accordingly.
So how about we set ourselves a deadline? I'd think it would be reasonable enough to expect a mix from all contestants before the end of october, i.e. sunday 28 oct? When all mixes are in we could schedule a listening/judging period for 2 weeks. Seeing as this thread hasn't exploded with people wanting to join I'd start with just one general category. If participation gets really high, you could always split the mixes into multiple categories. One implementation issue that I can't find a good solution to is a listening/judging thread layout. If we just post list of mixes there, the first couple of mixes will be listened to most and the last mix will be listened to only by some die-hard judges. That's something for a later time though, first let's collect some mixes! If we can agree to a length of max +/- 30 minutes, then I'm certainly in with a DnB mix.
Yeah I think the 30 mins a good idea as well. When i have some free time i will discuss this will the mods and phil and see how we can go about setting this up...and maybe even have a fulltime thread for stuff like this.
you should make sure that the mixes are "anonymized" so that it's a blind test of the mixes - that way people won't prejudice their decisions
That is actually a good one Dayvue... maybe we can make a special account on soundcloud or something other to post the mixes anonymously and you PM a mod here your mix number, so only we know. Else many of these battles are won, by "whoever has the most facebook fans".
Yes i agree an anonymous battle would be the best, that way as terry said it will be judged on skill and not popularity. After all it's a DJ comp not a popularity contest, but then again when mixes are hosted what is to stop "A" dj going through the mixes and finding his and telling friends mix number ?? is my mix please vote for that mix.
