I would advise you read my signature, google the name at the end of the quote. Then take some time to consider things.

@Vinny Blanc: Good finish on your new logo, I really like the way it turned out!
@Manhattan: I think it is a great idea to have a weekly post, it really keeps you motivated, and makes you take a little more ownership over the whole DJ thing. Have you had any opportunities to play at house parties or anything similar yet?

I feel yea... Last night I felt like I wasent focusing enough on music. So this month it will be 90% on that. The good thing about the past week is that I found alot of music I really like. I just havent mixed it though. Lets do it up and cant wait to hear the mash up man!

No I havent yet... I've been crazy busy with work. I have like 3 major projects going on in my life, a new relationship and DJing. Thats why I want to get my hour mix done so that I have something to promote and be able to hand out a physical copy of my work. Once I have that and my skills have improved a bit more il focus on hard core promotion and live gigs. As of right now i am not ready and I dont want to cut out other DJ's and their work. Thanks for the support!

Sumir, That quote is really meaningfull... and I am not in this for the fame. I am in this for the feeling of playing in front of a live crowd. Thats what I really want. Because new years night was just so amazing.

There is a quote in your profile .."I'm gonna be famous!" , that led me to believe the opposite.
  6. D.J.Manhattan Member

hehe, your right! At the time I got caught up in the moment day dreaming and wrote that. I just keep that there now to have an over all large goal. Dream big and all, right? But dont get me wrong its all about the feeling of being infront of a crowd I love showing off... and being the center of attention. I used to do professional Ballroom and thats how I got my fill of being in the spotlight lol.

Good luck with your over all large goal of becoming famous. I'll avoid that at as a motivation at all costs myself.

Actually I listened to it a few times over after it was finished and this morning and yes there are some mistakes and some general cleaning up to do. but otherwise for a first mash i think it sounds great. Btw this is a live mash up too no ableton or other music editing.

    Loving your goal updates!

    Thanks Phil!
A bit late on this update. I didint really have the energy to do what I wanted in the last 4 days of the week since I was in bed with high fever for 3 days. Also a late start to this week.

I didint get much accomplished which is a big bummer but i will make up for it starting tomorrow (still recovering). Only one goal for this week and thats to do a mash up I wanted to release last week.

I'm back, fell off the board there for a bit due to overwork. Just a tip for everyone doing alot with their life... don't do too much or you'll burn out.

So im getting right back into it. Also I think I want to merge this thread with another aspect of my life, Travel, well the preparation for my long ass trip. Goals for this week...
    Djing:
    1. Set up two hours worth of music that i most enjoy.

    2. Create a demo mix for promotion.

    3. Print biz cards.

    Travel:
    1. Start on light work out on chest and back and some running.

Keep up the great work my friend,This could also help people with their choice in life of what they want to do. However, with this they should also add stronger Magnet schools.
also I'm not sure if you have started using a music software to produce with, but if not I think you should use Live.
  14. D.J.Manhattan Member

thanks for the tip, il check out live. not sure what you mean by magnet schools though, my philosophy is to follow what you want to do, the only draw back is that you must know yourself really well before you can do that. I just hope this journal helps people with make the choice on how seriously they want to take DJing and the process it takes to become good.

Ok so I didint get to finish the promo cd since im still going through all the music that I have, almost done though. The biz Cards thing kinda fell through too. The guy who has everything set up had something unexpected come up and I wasent able to meet up wtih him. I'll keep in contact with him and make sure to get that done this week Sat. Otherwise I got to play alot of music and just listen to the stuff I like. My gf has been helping me out with discovering some bands and hits that I havent heard of yet.

Goals for this week: Lets do this right!

    1. Finish listening through all the songs by Wednesday night.

    2. Print Biz cards

    3. Work on Promo CD

    4. Create a new Mash up by saturday.

    Workout goals

    1. Visit gym 3 times this week mon, wed, thursday.

So I finished listening through all the music that I've been meaning to listen to and picked out a hefty selection. I've been trying to set up a mix CD too but havent been playing around as much as I wanted to with this, i've had a really busy weekend. Biz cards flopped but thats ok. This weekend...

Goals for this week: Dedication and orginization!

    1. Practice one hour a day for 7 days. No excuses. Focus on beat and song matching. The idea is to make the music sound as if it is part of one track so that you cant tell where one song starts and where one ends.

    2. Start reading the DJ Manual. 1 chapter a day.

    3. Start Figuring out Ableton Live.

To complete all these goals I must be efficiant with my time and have lazer focus.

    Work out goals:

    1. Go Tue: Chest
    Wed: Back
    Thur: Cardio
  17. I don't know if this fits for you. A buddy told to me journal any songs I see that gets people dancing. Here's a thought: As you write your journal, how about turning it into a blog? What you learn just might help other DJs.
  18. My bad. I didn't your whole post.
  19. D.J.Manhattan Member

lol haha, no worries. il start posting mixes again soon to show my progress.

It's monday again time for another update.

The only goal I was satisfied with was my mixing goal from last week. I did an hour a day and recored every set except for one where I forgot to press save... :/. from listening back I can tell a noticiable improvement in the blending and less mistakes. I didint touch the dance music manual or ableton due to... I dont really have an excuse so I guess I just loafted.

I am going to focus on being effcient again this week and continue with the goals from last week. I also wanted to change my logo, il have a friend set it up sometime this week.

    This weeks Goals:

    - Mix an hour a day, with focus on blending music.
    - Refine my main music crate even more. I am finding that I use certain songs alot more and that I dont touch the others.
    - Start reading the dance music manual and read the manual for Ableton live.
    - Set up a promo mix CD on Sunday.

Guys... its summer! time to go out and rock it!
