Serato software is moving inexorably towards Serato DJ 2.0 with the release of Serato DJ 1.9.6, which is now in public beta. Announced today, this release has among its new features a whole host aimed at DVS DJs, plus a number of small but useful changes, of which we pick out our favourite below.
What’s new
For DVS users, Smart Sync and a new anti-drift function have arrived for tighter multi-deck mixing, along with an option to tempo adjust all synced decks at once.
Meanwhile, Pitch Play mappings are now available for hardware including the Pioneer DJ DDJ-SX, DJM-S9, Numark NS7III, NVII and more (requires Pitch ‘n Time DJ licence), which is a feature we’ve particularly enjoyed for creative mixing.
One library change we like is the ability to dictate Smart Crates by key notation – no more complex rules to create key-compatible playlists.
Which, of course, only leaves one question: with Serato rushing at its next integer at about the same speed Traktor is rushing towards its, which should we expect first, Serato 2.0 or Traktor 3.0? Now that is something I really wouldn’t like to call…
