CDJ-900
The new CDJ-900NXS brings power features from the CDJ-2000NXS at a more affordable price point. (Click to enlarge.)

With a full-colour LCD waveform screen, full integration with Pioneer’s music preparation software rekordbox, and the ability to load tunes via WiFi, Pioneer’s new CDJ-900NXS blurs the line even more between CDJs and controllers. Offering the possibility of playing music from PC, smartphone, tablet or USB as well as from CD, the unit is about as far from the last generation’s club standard, the venerable old CDJ-1000, as it’s possible to imagine.

The screen has waveform and wave zoom, and the browser is massively improved over the CDJ-900 with the chance to view by list, artwork or custom choices. The mixing tools at hand are ever more software influenced, with slip loop, quantise and a new beat divide feature. One source can be shared with up to four decks via LAN cable, and just like the CDJ-2000NXS, these players also have the loved/hated sync button.

Would you consider investing in a Pioneer set-up now that the CDJ-900 has had a “digital upgrade”? Or is this too expensive a route for you? Do you think clubs will choose these over the CDJ-200NXS? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
