Reader DJ Cabezza writes: “I’ve been using MediaMonkey to organise my music on my PC for years but am now in the process of: 1. tidying up my music collection. and 2. using iTunes to do so. This is mainly because I just started using Traktor Pro since I got the S4 about a month ago. There are plenty of things that I miss from MediaMonkey that iTunes doesn’t do. Are the benefits of using iTunes with Traktor that much better than using Media Monkey, or do I just need to teach myself how to use iTunes again after so many years of not using it?”
Digital DJ Tips says:
The big benefit of iTunes is that you can spend an age on your smart playlists, then they all appear in your DJ software. Because of this, I think it’s worth persevering with. If it weren’t for that (and the fact that you can’t get MediaMonkey for the Mac), I think I’d also be happy with MediaMonkey – it’s an awesome program, that, especially for those with big music collections, does indeed have advantages over iTunes.
But once you think of iTunes as giving you the ability to pack awesome crates of music, crates that you can then take along to your gigs and “open” in your DJ software, you realise why it’s such a compelling solution for DJs who want to organise their music libraries away from the DJ software. That’s why it’s far and away the most popular music library software for DJs (70% of our readers use it). Persevere!
Are you a MediaMoney user? Do you use your DJ software to organise your music? Or are you one of the majority who use iTunes, love it or not? Please let us know your thoughts in the comments…
